Meet Henry

I was born and raised in New Bedford, Massachusetts. I Graduated from Saint Anthony’s Elementary School and Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School. I also graduated from Bristol Community College with an Associate’s degree in Communications. I have been working in restaurants since the age of fifteen; some south coast favorites such as; The Candleworks, The Pasta House, Kate Cory’s at Bittersweet Farm. I was formerly the sous chef at Margaret’s in Fairhaven. Before that I worked for the Ninety Nine Restaurant and Pub, worked for the Walt Disney World Company in The Land at EPCOT in Orlando, Florida. I also have done part-time seasonal cooking for both The New Bedford Yacht Club and The Country Club of New Bedford.

My first experience as an owner/operator was Four Corner’s Breakfast and Catering on the corner of Nauset and Mount Pleasant streets in New Bedford. A thirty-eight seat neighborhood diner. In the first six months after I took over the diner, the cuisine and customer service style earned us rave reviews and a quickly growing clientele. I bought a business doing ok and grew it into a neighborhood staple in just a year and a half.

After getting married and selling Four Corners I then purchased my second business, Cobblestone Restaurant in Historic Downtown New Bedford’s Seaport in 2003 with my wife Tee.  Together we were successful at elevating the restaurants public persona and earning many accolades such as “South Coast Favorites” two years in a row, Cape Cod Life Magazine editors pick for best Breakfast place, and we were featured several times in the Standard Times for either new or innovative menu programs, like “Fusion Night”, community service projects and as a contributor to several charitable endeavors. One highlight for us and our crew was making lunch for and hosting Massachusetts Senior Senator John Kerry and the entire democratic delegation from the south coast.

It wasn’t long before Tee and I were welcoming our children into the world. First came Phoebe Pauline in 2004, her middle name belonged to my mother Pauline (Norcross) Bousquet who passed when I was only ten years old. Next, in 2006 came our baby, Payton Promise. It was around this time when I began to wonder if the life of an entrepreneur chef was truly suitable for fatherhood. It was in this time of my life when I became keenly aware of the importance of community, and being available to help and participate in the lives of my wife, my children, my neighbors and my friends. Being a struggling small business owner wasn’t the path I needed to be on. I sold the business, and changed course.

In addition to my associates’ degree from Bristol Community College, I hold a culinary educator professional certification from the Massachusetts DESE. I’m a part-time occupational education Bachelors’ Degree candidate at Fitchburg State University. In addition to my career as a fulltime Culinary Arts Instructor for Greater New Bedford Voc Tech, I’m a certified executive chef under the American Culinary Federation, and active in Neighborhoods United serving as President of the Mount Pleasant Street Neighborhood Association.

Now I intend to continue to pursue the things that are most important to me; Like, Public service and my passion for community and making New Bedford’s WARD 3 a more desirable place to call home, my education as a lifelong learner, and making the time to help raise our two beautiful daughters and spend quality time with my supportive, caring and lovely wife, Tee.

I am working hard for the people of ward 3 and New Bedford and pledge to continue to do so! Please Vote to re-elect Henry Bousquet for Ward 3 City Councilor in November!
