Daisy Troop 88114 Visit the Council

On March  26th 2013 I had the distinct pleasure of hosting the Daisy troop of Girl Scouts from my youngest daughters class at City Hall and in City Council chambers.  They wanted to learn different ways to help people for one of their petal merit badges. Who better to ask than someone whose job it is to help folks navigate government, get services, advocate for them, and answer questions about  how our system works for you.

The clerks in the council office, Sue, Rae and Nicole prepared a mock agenda and gathered some cool city council pens , pencils and pins to share with the girls as a token to remember the experience by. On our agenda was the very real question about whether Emily and Ruth should be retired to Tennessee or not, and should Girl Scouts be able to sell their cookies on City property! Parents were also on hand and helped the girls debate the issues as I ran the meeting for them to see how we open, close and obey Roberts Rules of Order.  Then we talked about the many ways city councilors help the people of New Bedford. It was a great learning experience for all, I had a blast getting to know the girls and teaching them why I love this job so much.  Thank you Daisies Troop 88114 for making my week!

A special thank you goes out to my beautiful wife for documenting the event with our camera.
