Republicans v. Democrats

Why am I a republican?
Well, it goes a little like this. I believe as an American you have the right to work hard and earn a living anyway you’d like so long as it’s legal. Legal, as defined by the laws for the local municipalities, states and federal government.
I also believe that taxes are something we all must pay in order to have a functioning government that provides a number of services like security, safe travel, an interstate system, trash pick up, emergency services, unemployment insurance, and a certain amount of public welfare and assistance to the disabled and citizens with certain needs.
As a business owner and a member of corporate America I am well aware of the inequities in the tax system. 60 percent of my overall income as a business owner went to some form of taxation.  Meals tax, payroll tax, utility tax, unemployment tax, federal  corporate taxes, state corporate taxes, Medicaid, and property tax, Social Security, personal property tax (that’s a local tax on equipment and fixtures). So it’s no wonder it was impossible to serves eggs at a price that allowed me to make any money in the long run, and be fair to employees.
Then, I would get into my ten year old Nissan truck and go do my families groceries, for which I pay cash. Where I am then behind someone in line who pays with an EBT card and then loads the groceries into their brand new Cadillac Escalade. Now I know you might say, “well that is not the majority of people,”  and you might be right. But my outrage is that it can happen at all. What are the people doing that thinking? Ever take a ride through the public housing projects? My favorite time is Christmas, number one gift box in the trash this year, LCD Flat Screens in excess of 32 inches.  I work two jobs and can’t afford a thousand dollar TV. Or power wheels… that’s a three hundred dollar toy? My children don’t have three hundred dollar toys?
Why not get an apartment that’s not on the dole? These assistance budgets are out of control because the system is wrought with abuse. There is not enough investigators to handle the case loads of reported abuse. It’s easier it seems to just hand out checks. I can’t accept that, that’s not why my grandfather fought in WW2. This money is coming directly from what I am supposed to be putting into my own retirement fund…That is why social security is upside down now.
Roe v.Wade, I’m a man and it’s not for me to say what a woman is to do with her body. However, it does take a man and a woman to make a child, neither religion nor law can deny that fact.  I don’t believe in the death penalty either. Unless, and yes there is one exception; The murder or abuse of an innocent child.
So, if a woman gets pregnant and decides the timing is inconvenient, or she hadn’t intended to get pregnant, I should hope that this abortion comes after a condom, the pill, the morning after pill, and all the other forms of planned intercourse’s preventative measures were taken.  In other words, if you get pregnant after being raped or all other measures fail then by all means I’d rather you destroy the life prior to bringing it into the world, rather than having the child and resenting it. Children I believe are gifts.
As for the use of our military, I think it should be a judicious and well planned event, and above all else a last resort. I think perhaps the current conflict in Iraq is well meaning but badly misplaced. Afghanistan is where our real enemy is, but I also don’t think that Syria, Iran, Turkey, or any of the Muslim Middle East wish Americans any glad tidings. We need to stand ready and willing to strike at terrorism with sweeping force and resilience so that our shores remain sovereign.
I think NAFTA, has destroyed this nation by forcing the global economy upon us. Wal-mart has done its share to screw us too, by paying poor wages to millions of employees and encouraging their abuse of the welfare system.
Our manufacturing base didn’t adapt adequately and because of obese and power drunk unions, has lost the ability to compete and this has slowly driven jobs overseas and driven our economy into a down ward spiral. Not everyone can be Bill Gates or George Clooney, so the jobs the rest of us did became few and far between and that alone has created the huge gap in wealth and spurred the middle class erosion.
I believe in  getting back to our ideals as a nation. Life, Liberty, Freedom, prosperity, hard work, and planning for the future are what our forbearers believed we fought for.
Then inventing an industry, protection of that industry, and proliferation of that industry into the growth of the middleclass and then injecting that good or service onto the global market is what might bring us back to our feet. Beyond that we may be lost.
I am a republican because simply put, I desire for the government to stop taking from me and giving to others who aren’t willing to make themselves useful. I desire for our government to be streamlined, proactive and innovative and less involved with my private life. I think ultimately if we get back to those original tenets it’s not going to be the progressive liberal left ideals getting us there. Since there are only two parties, I choose the lesser of two evils and hope by being involved we may someday find our way again.

“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.. You cannot multiply weath by dividing it..”
